Youth ‘not ready’ for work

MANY YOUNG BARBADIANS seeking to enter the labour force are unprepared for the working environment, says Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer Suckoo.

And this has prompted her to call for the introduction of formal training for the world of work in secondary schools.

Byer- Suckoo concurred with employers in the private and public sectors that the lack of readiness on the part of new entrants into the working environment was a matter of concern. She said the right skills, competencies and qualities for the job were areas in which the young seekers were falling short, thus affecting their employability.

She, however, said her ministry was on the job actively addressing the matter through training. (GC)
