A BARBADIAN LANDSCAPING COMPANY has come up with an easy solution for householders who want to grow their own food but have limited space or time.
An instant kitchen garden is what GB Greens, operated by Rowmell Grosvenor and Ryan Brathwaite, has devised to help consumers in their bid to eat healthy.
“In recent times, the medical practitioners would have asked Bajans to include healthier foods in their diet.
“Including them in your diet is a bit expensive as vegetables are getting more and more expensive every day and what is easily accessible is fast food, the unhealthy food.
“We at GB Greens decided we should make a product that makes vegetables easily accessible for the Bajan public and we’ve introduced the instant kitchen gardens,” Grosvenor told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY.
He said the response to the low-maintenance product had been “overwhelming” and explained there was no need for the owners to spend long hours watering their gardens or battling with pests and other challenges that could pose serious problems.
“It is a raised bed solution that is sold with irrigation drip line holes. It also has bird netting to protect against pests, and in some areas of the country, monkeys.
“It is also sold with a spray gun and a manual that instructs you on how to make home-made pesticides so your crops wouldn’t be eaten by pests that want the food just as bad as you do,” the technical director said.
In addition to the landscaping of properties, the company undertakes garden maintenance and open lot debushing.
Grosvenor said they are hoping to get homeowners to see landscaping as an integral part of the process, something that they too can enjoy.
The company’s intention is to “reach the homeowners before they acquire mortgages from the bank” and offer them affordable solutions so they can be incorporated into the financing. (GBM)
