THE POLICE FORCE will not drop its standards even in the face of a shortage of crimefighters.
That promise has come from Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, who admitted that while there may be a shortage of police officers, the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) will not be lowering its standards to facilitate unsuitable applicants.
Griffith said that despite pleas for qualified persons to join the force, it still needed about 200 officers for optimal performance.
“The last count I saw was in excess of 180 and closer to 200. Obviously we could really do well with those numbers. It’s difficult to find quality applicants in the numbers that we want and we cannot lower our standards simply to fulfil those vacancies and so we have to continue trying to attract those people,” the top cop said.
