DEAR CHRISTINE: Why do men treat women so?

DEAR CHRISTINE: I have been married once and left my husband because he used to beat me. I kept far from men after that experience.

Christine, I did not leave at first because my husband would apologise and promise not to hit me again, but that promise was like pie crust, “easily broken”.

Anyhow, two years ago I got involved with a man who at the start was kind and loving, but things started to happen. First he took up with another woman and had a child with her. I was in the dark for a long time but now I know the reason for the nights he worked late.

He is in a business with fluctuating hours. When I found out what was happening he did not spare me. Life became unbearable at home and he would pick a quarrel at the slightest thing.

The last straw was when he hit me. Much as I cared for him I turned him out of my house. Christine, why are men so cruel to women who love and care for them?

Dear MEG,

All men are not cruel to women who love them. You have just had two most unfortunate experiences but I hope one day some kind, loving gentleman will come your way and redeem your trust in the male sex.

There is no excuse for blows but some men excuse such actions because they claim to be provoked by nagging. That’s what they call complaining for some wrong being done.

I am not trying to transfer any blame to you but, just the same, you may want to check and see in what way, however innocently, you cause such a reaction from your men folk.

If you plead not guilty, then you’re better off without such cruel companions.
