BSTU: No request for transfer

THE BARBADOS SECONDARY TEACHERS’ Union is denying that the female teacher involved in a fracas with a student in the classroom has requested to be transferred from the Black Rock, St Michael school.

BSTU president Mary Redman said that the teacher did attend two disciplinary meetings with the board of management of the school, where she was asked a number of questions about her possible return to work.

“She responded to a question of the board as to her level of comfort at immediately returning to the classroom in a manner that they obviously interpreted as requesting a transfer from the school.

“That is really not her intention. She is still in a very traumatised state. She has said she wouldn’t be comfortable returning to any classroom now and needs time to heal. . .”
