Through the cracks

THE DROUGHT which has severely affected domestic chores in many districts has now been felt on the cricket field.

Massy United Insurance Wildey’s Super 50 third-round match against visitors Gladiola at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic Ground was abandoned yesterday because of an unsuitable outfield.

Umpires Ryan Willoughby and Dave Thompson judged that the outfield, which is severely parched and cracked, was unfit for play and abandoned the match just before the scheduled 9:30 a.m. start.

The special regulations of the Barbados Cricket Association state that any team or club which neglects to ensure that the facilities are ready for play at the appointed time on any day, barring acts of God or exceptional circumstances, shall forfeit the match in question. The BCA will rule on the allocation of points for the game. (HE)
