THE INNINGS of legendary cricket broadcaster, television analyst and writer Tony Cozier was ended yesterday.
Cozier, 75, died at the Bay View Hospital where he was admitted on May 3 for tests.
Immediately after news of his passing, cricket administrators, players, his fellow commentators and journalists hailed the man, who was affectionately regarded as the “Voice of West Indies cricket”, for his dedicated and outstanding coverage of the game during the last six decades.
Among those paying tributes to him was his long-standing friend and colleague, Editor Emeritus of the NATION newspaper Harold Hoyte, who noted his working relationship with Cozier went back 48 years and their friendship 47.
“That first year he was my boss at the Daily News when I joined that newspaper along with Carl Moore. For me, it was some of the best times – all the pleasure of working on a great newspaper and little of the heavy leadership responsibility,” Hoyte said.
