Those those elements will be key factors going forward after Barbados’ athletics got a big boost with two more Olympic Games’ qualifiers.
Hurdler Tia-Adana Belle and Burkheart Ellis joined Akela Jones and Sada Williams as the only Barbadians who have met the qualifying standard this year for the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
Two-time Olympian Seibert Straughn said it will now call for an all-round rally by Barbadians to ensure the national representatives perform at their best on the biggest stage in track and field.
“We’ve got to give them full support and all the necessary resources for them to be successful, not only getting meets where they can get a high standard of competition but things like training, nutrition and having the right people around them will be critical,” he said.
