TEACHERS IN BARBADOS are feeling betrayed and belittled.
And that betrayal could lead to even more industrial action next week, after members of the island’s two largest teacher unions met at separate meetings yesterday before coming up with a similar consensus.
President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, accused Minster of Education Ronald Jones of belittling teachers and making comments which have “fuelled the constantly simmering anti-teacher sentiment”.
While noting that the teacher bashing has resulted from some comments from Government and from stories coming in the media, Redman said the Ministry of Education was trying to create the impression that they are the only persons who care about “poor children”.
