IN THE FACE of countrywide destruction following a massive earthquake in their homeland, Ecuadorian students attending the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies are bravely remaining committed to their education.
The Spanish-speaking students said they were moving quickly to raise funds for their fellow citizens, while revealing that some of them were yet to make contact with relatives in the South American continent.
The 50 Ecuadorians who are on the island to learn English as a Second Language (ESL), gathered yesterday to show support for those back home, with some visibly emotional.
The earthquake, which occurred last Saturday, has resulted in more than 300 deaths and displaced about 100 000 people, while the country continues to be rocked by hundreds of strong aftershocks. (AD)
