FOUNDATION SCHOOL’S track team will be a force to reckon with in years to come.

And despite those talking down the recent successes of the Church Hill, Christ Church institution, track coach Ricky Carter is adamant the schools winning streak has just started.

Speaking on the sidelines of a special function for the school’s CARIFTA athletes and Under-16 netballers today, Carter explained what made the difference this year.

“I think that we had a more rounded team and I think the athletes were [highly] committed,” he explained.

The girls dethroned Springer Memorial after more than a decade at the top, while the boys finished second to The Lester Vaughan School.

Coach Carter made it clear the focus was very much on academics as well.

Despite people stating the victory was not “authentic” he said very few of the top athletes were “outsiders”.

“People need to know we are not pulling any athletes from all over,” he added.

During the ceremony, the popular Champion song by West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo seemed to pull the dancer out of Principal Robert Cumberbatch.

He was clearly still in a celebratory mood as he did a jig along with runner Elizabeth Williams and top swimmer Alex Sobers. (MR)
