Man accused of crop theft to appear in court

A ST GEORGE man is expected to appear in court today charged with the theft of sweet potatoes and onions.

He is 52-year-old Grantley DaCosta McDonald Thorpe of Valley Land.

Police say he was seen by plantation workers in a field of sweet potatoes at Chapel Plantation yesterday. He ran from the field and was later apprehended.

One hundred and five pounds of sweet potatoes were recovered.

Police also report that a quantity of onions was reported stolen from the Valley Plantation on April 8.

Investigations led to the arrest of Thorpe and he was subsequently charged with the theft of ten bags of onions.

He is expected to appear in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court. (PR/NB)
