OPPOSITION LEADER Mia Mottley has questioned Government’s actions in relation to National Insurance Scheme (NIS) funds, particularly those that were intended to purchase Almond Beach Resort in St Peter.
Mottley, speaking to supporters gathered in the yard of the party’s Roebuck Street, St Michael headquarters last night, spoke about the large amounts of money borrowed from the NIS by the current administration. She said while the scheme had $1.4 billion in Government paper when the Barbados Labour Party was voted out of office in 2008, it stood at $3.2 billion at the end of December 2015.
She said Government now owed the NIS $240 million.
Mottley said the $55 million loaned to the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII) through a bond to purchase Almond Resorts created a major dent as well. (YB)
