THIS YEAR’S ANNUAL Holders Season, the shortest edition since its inception, is being billed as high energy and full of momentum.

There will be six shows over an eight-day period. And today it kicks off with the Queen of New York’s Cabaret Rooms, with Grammy nominee Judy Carmichael.

Production and public relations consultant Adisa Andwele speaking at a Press conference on the grounds of Holder’s Garden Theatre, St James Tuesday provided details on the music festival.

“In the past we have found that there has been as much as a two-day gap between shows, so this year, in the 23rd instalment of the show, we have a one-day gap between a couple of shows.

“It is traditional at Holder’s to bring some of the best talent, but also to include some of our best artistes to perform on the same stage as the international ones; not just the established ones, but also those who we believe have what it takes to get to the next step and want the opportunity to perform in such a space,” Andwele said.

He credited Zig-E Walcott with assembling a wonderful package.

Artistic director for the production, Stewart Collins, pointed out that this year also boasted several international artistes, with two Grammy nominees in Carmichael and saxophonist Amy Dickson.

“Holder’s is a magical place for all types of performances and we are all very privileged to walk into this little piece of heaven. The reason for having the season so short this year is to give the show a fantastic momentum. It would be fair to say it would be against a background of leading sponsorship and it is an expensive show to put on. And though it is not an easy game, we have decided to focus on what we do best in a shorter period of time,” he added.

Other attractions for the season include artistes from Cuba, United Kingdom and Australia, while local artistes include Mylon Clarke, Jamal Slocombe, the Barbados National Youth Orchestra String Quartet, Barbados Community College Latin Band, Operation Triple Threat and Zig-E. (RA)
