Embrace City, new dean told

THE CATHEDRAL of St Michael and All Angels, located in the heart of Bridgetown, must extend its ministry to the entire City.

Installing the 13th dean, Dr Jeffrey Gibson, last Sunday evening, Anglican Bishop Dr John Holder told Gibson his ministry as dean “must be one that enhances the connection between the Cathedral and the City community” since, in the bishop’s view, the nature of ministry dictated that it “sends us out to meet people where they are and respond to their conditions”.

In his sermon directed to Gibson and heard by hundreds of Anglicans at the installation service, Holder reminded the congregation: “Ministry within the walls of the church and the ministry without are two complementary expressions of proclaiming the good news.”

He said for more than two centuries the Anglican Church had offered Christian work and witness to Barbados in the “bustling City of Bridgetown”.
