IT’S A CASE of where the dead could help the living.

And it would save the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) millions of dollars too.

But a dearth of specialised kidney transplant surgery in Barbados is lending to the ever-increasing cost of treating dialysis patients at the cash strapped QEH.

Barbados’ lack of brain-death legislation, which would allow health officials to remove healthy kidneys from deceased people and transfer them surgically to living patients, means those operations cannot be performed here until special laws are created.
