Kensington Oval Management Inc.’s (KOMI) mobile stage hasn’t been in heavy demand for the 2019 Crop Over season.
Out of the over 150 events on the Crop Over calendar only two have been booked so far, The Welcome to Marz Ville show which took place last night at the Oval and Kiddies Kadooment slated for this morning.
But with the sweetest summer festival swiftly coming to an end, chief executive officer of KOMI Ben Toppin, says the $300 000 stage was not bought primarily to make a profit but to protect the cricket outfield during non-sport events.
“It is generating revenue as it should. The stage was not acquired first and foremost to make a profit. It was bought to enable us to have events on the field without any impact on the grass. There were concerns . . . so we took steps to ensure that we can easily have an event on the field, in a short space of time, by using a mobile stage,” he told THE NATION in an exclusive interview yesterday.
