THE DUST IS KICKING UP amongst some local white and black Barbadians.

The verbal outrage follows businessman Ralph “Bizzy” Williams’ comments in the WEEKEND NATION yesterday about members of the white community feeling slighted and “crushed” following the launch of celebrations leading up to the island’s 50th anniversary of independence.

A video shown at the Independence Square event described Barbados as “the freest black nation in the world”.

Two well known Pan Africanists, David Comissiong and Trevor Prescod, who is also a parliamentarian for the opposition Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP), have dismissed Williams’ comments as without merit. However, two former senators, Philip Goddard who served in a BLP cabinet and Dr Frances Chandler who sat in the Upper House as an Independent, both said Williams’ comments were merited.
