TERTIARY EDUCATION in Barbados is set to get a big boost with the opening of a $50 million internationally affiliated aeronautical and aviation university here in March.
Brookside University is expected to attract at least 200 students when the Christ Church campus, to be located near the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), starts operation. Initially, 20 locals will get jobs ranging from academic and administration positions to general workers.
Grace Showan, the president-designate of Brookside, said this culminated years of negotiations with international partners and Government regulators here. She predicted the initiative would make Barbados a global aeronautics and aviation hub.
While she did not disclose the precise location of the campus, sources told the DAILY NATION officials were in discussion with the owners of The Villages at Coverley to utilise a significant portion of that sprawling complex.
