TWO AMBULANCES responded to an accident in Speightstown, St Peter, between a ZR van and an SUV Sunday afternoon at the junction of Church Street and Round The Town.

The collision resulted in two people being injured. Driver of the route taxi, John Trotman, 44, of Four Hill, St Peter, and a passenger were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. However, another passenger voluntarily left the scene.

Darryl Chandler, who drove the SUV, appeared to be uninjured.

The ZR ended up crashing into the gate of Leacock’s Variety Shop, opposite the Bethany Baptist Church.

A number of residents as well as regular users of that road have often complained of the “dangerous nature” of the junction, with drivers often having to “come out in the road to see what was coming down from Station Hill heading into Speightstown”. Some have called on the authorities to “do something about it”.
