Englishman Julian Armfield came to Barbados for a ten-day trip and never left.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service correspondent, who specialised in horse racing, met his wife just two days before he was scheduled to leave the island he had also fallen in love with.
In 2004, Armfield was invited to the 85th birthday party of fellow Englishman Bill Marshall, who was a champion horse trainer living here. He was also the subject of Armfield’s first book, a biography, entitled, You Win Some You Lose Some.
This was to be a short ten-day trip, to celebrate with a friend, Armfield told the SUNDAY SUN, instead he met his wife, Susan Edghill, a real estate agent with Terra Caribbean and decided to stay in “paradise” forever.
