BY AUGUST next year, the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus should have a working day care facility.

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Dr Jennifer Obidah, told the media the estimated $2 million facility would serve a double purpose – to provide training for those interested in early childhood education as well as providing day care services for students with children.

“In another year, we will be establishing an early childhood day care and training development centre here on campus. We are going to be training the next generation of early childhood educators but we’re also going to be providing day care services for our students so that as parents come to better themselves through education, their children will be cared for right on campus,” she said.

Obidah was speaking Tuesday after a signing between the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Cave Hill campus at the 3Ws Oval to fund research in curriculum development and training in gender socialisation for early childhood development practitioners.
