Man saved from cave

A VISITOR TO THE ISLAND was injured yesterday after falling 40 feet off a cliff near the Animal Flower Cave in St Lucy.

Police said around 4:55 p.m, an Austrian visitor sustained a broken arm and leg as a result. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Rescue teams comprising officers from the Barbados Fire Service and Defence Force personnel as well as two experienced guides from the cave, worked for more than three hours to secure his safety.

One of the guides, Shurland Blackman, 41, of Connell Town, St Lucy, said the man was lucky to be alive.
