THE BARBADOS WORKERS UNION (BWU) and the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) have reached a wages settlement for workers in the industry that would see them receiving an 8 per cent increase over the next three years.
The agreement is retroactive from December 15, 2014 to December 15, 2017.
The announcement was made by BHTA Chief Executive Officer Sue Springer earlier today at the association’s quarterly meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Under the agreement, workers will received 2½% in the first year, 3% in the second and the final 2½ in the third.
Another meeting between the BHTA and the BWU is scheduled for today to iron out how the retroactive money will be paid.
The settlement paves the way for the start of the winter season on Tuesday without the threat of industrial action.
Springer thanked the workers for their patience. (GC)
