PAST AND PRESENT STUDENTS of Combermere came together yesterday to raise funds for the family of one the school’s former students, who died of cancer.
The friends and classmates of Kevin Walton, the 18-year-old student who succumbed to the disease earlier this year, held a concert in the Major Noot Hall as a tribute to him and to raise funds to help his family with outstanding medical bills.
His best friend, Melanie Banfield, said of Walton: “He was an amazing friend and a thoughtful guy. He was very caring and very close to God. His dying wish was for his friends to get back to God, and although he was sick, he kept us all together.
“I think it is thoughtful and a good thing that the student body has come together to do this for Walton’s family. His parents had to do so much, and this is our way of giving back,” she said.
Family members and friends of Walton were also present for the occasion.
Both past and present students created original pieces and did renditions of popular compositions. Performers included past students Vince, Ty Blue, Torian and Patrick Jorgensen. MC for the event was mathematics teacher Stuart Mayers. (RA)
