APPARENTLY, Curtis Cox just couldn’t wait for the marathon to return.

The Run Barbados Marathon Weekend’s most coveted prize is finally in Cox’s hands, as the enduring Trinidadian slammed a small 38-man field to capture his first-ever full marathon yesterday when the event made its big comeback after a three-year hiatus.

With his second-place finish from 2011 (the last running of the full marathon) still fresh in mind, the 47-year-old made sure to go one better this time, leading the 26-mile event from start to finish. He won in a rather underwhelming time of two hours, 45 minutes and 45 seconds.

“The main thing was to win the race because in 2013 I came second [in the half-marathon] and also in 2012 so I wasn’t checking on the time,” said Cox.
