Gym hitch

IT STILL isn’t smooth sailing using the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex for sports after the staging of cultural events at the Wildey venue.

This was manifested once again when the annual Inter-Schools’ Badminton Tournament got off to a late start yesterday after organisers and players were greeted with chairs and a stage on the court.

When the MIDWEEKSPORT team arrived at the Gymnasium, workers were busy dismantling the stage and removing chairs two and half hours after the tournament was scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, all the players who had arrived on time were seated in the stands, quietly awaiting the start of the tournament.

The organisers, who are all coaches at the National Sports Council, declined to comment on the matter. (PG)
