AN ARANTEES LAWRENCE strike in extra time pushed St Michael South to a tense 1-0 victory over Christ Church West Central on Saturday night in the quarter-finals of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic.

The match ended 0-0 in regular time and with the extra time slowly winding down at Bagatelle, St Thomas, many fans thought that it was headed to a penalty shoot-out. But Lawrence finally got past Jason Welch after a mad scramble in front of goal to send the St Michael South bench and fans into celebration.

In the second match of the night, St George South thrashed St Michael North 4-1.

Rosean Brathwaite scored the first goal in the ninth minute while Dario Harewood had a brace, with goals in the 12th and 43rd minutes. Kishmar Primus finally put St Michael North on the score sheet with a strike in the 51st minute and Shakile Belle scored St George South’s fourth in the 70th minute.

The venue for the semi-finals has not been finalised as yet but St Michael South will face St Michael Central while St George South will oppose defending champions Christ Church East Central on December 12. (PG)
