Until it can be proven that Barbados becoming a republic would be better than the current system of governance, a former Prime Minister said then and only then will he entertain the idea.
Speaking yesterday to the media at the headquarters of the Democratic Labour Party, Belleville, St Michael, Sir Lloyd Sandiford said that Barbados has done “remarkably well” under the political system.
“If you can tell me how the situation could be improved by doing that, I’m all ears. Look at when Jamaica went independent, Trinidad and Tobago went independent. Barbados went independent and my biggest regret is that we did not get a consensus among the people of Barbados for that move,” he said.
