The 83 former Ministry of Transport and Works employees who were retrenched during the first phase of the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme are smiling all the way to the bank.
That is because after months of negotiations they have started to receive gratuity payments.
Wayne Walrond, the deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) told the Saturday Sun that the workers were relieved and happy.
“The NUPW is extremely pleased that after making vigorous representation of the 83 workers of MTW who had been retrenched after ten years and more, several have started getting their gratuity payment. Some of them advised us that they have seen money on their accounts and they are very happy.” (MB)
