Thani’s not selling damaged shoes

THE DAILY NATION on October 27, printed an article under the caption Dry Rotted Shoes Leave Man In Shock. Thani’s Shoe Shop has strong objections to the said article and the comments the customer made.

The management of Thani’s also feels that the reporter who covered this story did not contact any supervisor from the Bridge Street store, but only contacted a supervisor at the Sheraton branch late on Monday evening of October 26, after 6:30 p.m. The stores in Town close at 4 p.m.

The reporter from the NATION explained to the supervisor at the Sheraton branch the customer’s complaints. Our supervisor told him she could not assist him as the transaction did not occur there but occurred at the Bridge Street location.

At that point the reporter requested to speak to a senior manager from the Bridge Street store. At that time, sometime after 6:30 p.m., the manager was off duty and was tied up elsewhere, but she said she would speak to the reporter the next day during store hours when she was back at work in Bridge Street.

However, your reporter did not speak to our senior manager the next day and informed our supervisor at Sheraton that “something will be printed in the paper tomorrow”.

The reporter, in our opinion, if he had waited another day, would have got more details from the staff at Bridge Street concerning this purchase.

The said customer, Mr Beaumont Archer, told the supervisor at Bridge Street when he came to get the shoe exchanged on Monday, October 26, that he had been away from the island for the past six months and had the shoes wrapped up in plastic and kept them under his bed. He is now taking them out to wear and finds the shoes in a bad condition.

The supervisor made the decision not to give an exchange for the length of time the customer had the shoes and also they were purchased at a sale. Clearly the damage to the shoes was heat-related . . . .

The management at Thani’s also cannot confirm anyone bringing back a damaged suede moccasin. Unless a receipt is produced, we cannot say the shoes were definitely purchased from us. Other establishments sell similar shoes.

We take strong objection to the article. Thani’s does not sell damaged shoes.

The management and staff at Thani’s take great care to make sure our customers are satisfied. Each customer is important to us. It is unfortunate that Mr Archer purchased shoes he liked very much but could not wear them due to circumstances beyond our control. We would ask Mr Archer to get in touch with us and we will see what we can do for him.
