HOST COUNTRY BARBADOS has lost its stranglehold on the Darcy Beckles Invitational (Bodybuilding) Classic.
That’s because imposing Grenadian policeman Damien Daniel won a memorable showdown with Barbados champion Stevenson Belle and towering Vincentian Garwin Phillips to walk away with the first prize cheque of $4 000 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
A near capacity audience that included Chief Magistrate Pamela Beckles and body building pros Antoinette Downie, Maurice Arthur and Ramon Dodson screamed themselves hoarse as Daniel, Belle and Phillips traded shot for shot, with each man displaying over 200 pounds of razor-sharp muscle.
Daniel, 35, one of the bodyguards of Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, had the most complete package and won deservedly.
