THE NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE FESTIVAL of Creative Arts concluded with the theatre arts finals on Tuesday night, but the tradition of excellence was lacking.
Seemingly struggling to draw enough acts which met the standard from the semi-finals, organisers pulled seven music acts to have a full show on theatre night for paying patrons. The situation would not have been an issue if the old system of having multiple disciplines on each final night was in effect.
And were it not for Rickardo Reid, who ended the first half on a high note, Janine White who closed and to a lesser extent Yolanda Holder, the best act on theatre night would have been a musical piece.
The evening got under way with two numbers from Olakunde titled Like A Boss and In The Stone, which were well received. (YB)
