THE CREDIT UNION sector has grown by just under $95 million in the past year but seven credit unions had to pay the tax imposed on their assets.
President of the Barbados Co-operative and Credit Union League, Barry Hunte, has assured its members that the umbrella body for credit unions is willing to challenge this legislation.
Hunte was addressing the league’s annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday.
In his report, Hunte said one of the major successes of the past year was the overall performance of the sector, which saw its assets grow from $1.721 billion to $1.815 billion.(HLE)
