THE RAIN THAT AFFECTED Wednesday night’s semi-finals of the Silver Hill Road Tennis Championship could not match the storms of controversy and torrents of morale-sapping replays which gutted over 2 500 spectators, including Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley on Thursday night.
The record will show that the island’s No. 1 player Mark “Venom” Griffith defeated former champion Julian “Michael Jackson” White 14-21, 28-26, 21-17; that shots-master Antonio “Lil Man” Daniel stopped Curtis Jones 21-18, 22-20; and that Darius “Baracus” Gaskin defeated Emar Edwards 21-17, 18-21, 21-19 in a juniors clash.
However, the shots, determination and sheer skill of the six were overshadowed by questionable officiating – with two incidents, in particular, shocking the large crowd.
