COLOMBO – The West Indies, inspired first by their exceptional pace bowling trio, and by debutant left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, enjoyed a rewarding opening day of the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval yesterday.
Sri Lanka, happy to bat first on winning the toss, were bowled out for 200 midway through the final session. The West Indies replied with 17-1, losing Shai Hope by the close.
The 23-year-old Warrican, who settled well after a nervy start, claimed 4-67. Seamers Jason Holder (2-22), Taylor (2-50) and Kemar Roach (1-30) prospered from a more fiery approach early and were consistently probing.
Left-hander Milinda Siriwardana, in his second Test, top-scored with an assured 68 in three hours. He hit six fours and two sixes.
