Doc: Beat cancer with early tests

BREAST CANCER has no respect for race or stature in society and Barbadians are being advised to get tested early as a way to combat the disease.

Dr Shirley Jhagroo, medical coordinator of the breast screening programme of the Barbados Cancer Society, was the featured speaker at a lecture at the Bridgetown Public Library, Independence Square on Tuesday.

She said that women who had no children, those who started to menstruate before age ten and those who had abortions were found to have higher likelihood of developing breast cancer.

Furthermore, she noted that those with a history of breast cancer in their families were also predisposed to developing the disease.
