READ!

That was the loud shout from about 400 students of Westbury Primary School yesterday morning close to the end of a walk-through of the surrounding districts to launch their third annual Library Week.

They were on the home stretch opposite the Baxters Road Fish Fry when they paused and, on cue, raised their voices to attract the full attention of passersby at the busy intersection.

Braving the morning sun, children, accompanied by teachers and volunteer parents, carried placards, posters and balloons with encouraging words like – Bee A Reader, Read Morning Noon And Night, Make Friends With A Book, Fly High With Reading and Enjoy Reading – which were all intended to get both the adults and children to open themselves to the exciting world of reading.

This year’s mascot is Pinocchio, and he accompanied the students on the walk-through as well. Pinocchio will be busy throughout the entire week visiting the various classes to get children to read more.
