Regional company eyes Banks Holdings

A BATTLE is brewing for the takeover of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL).

Sources in the financial sector have confirmed that a regional company with interests in the beverage industry is considering making BHL shareholders an attractive counter offer to better the $4 a share that SLU Beverages Ltd – the St Lucia-registered holding company owned by Latin American conglomerate, AMBEV SA – has put on the table.

There is also speculation that Barbadian conglomerate, Goddards Enterprises Ltd, could also be interested in making a bid.

These financial sources are therefore hoping that shareholders heed BHL’s board chairman, Anthony King’s appeal last Friday not to jump at the SLU offer.
