Confused by Pope’s words

POPE FRANCIS in his recent historic address to a joint session of the United States Congress (September 24) stated: “The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.”

While this statement is viewed by many as a somewhat veiled denunciation of abortion (for example, The Huffington Post noted that “he never directly mentioned abortion”), it is very striking to note that while the pontiff did not openly denounce the God-forbidden murder of millions of babies by calling for its abolition, he was very clear, direct and open in his denunciation of the God-ordained death penalty, calling for its universal abolition.

What kind of pontiff is this who is seemingly soft on abortion (murder), but strong and forceful on safeguarding the lives of convicted murderers? As the old Bajan adage goes, “these days are funny nights”, indeed.
