WELL-KNOWN BUSINESSMAN and black power activist Trevor “Job” Clarke died yesterday.
Clarke, a powerful figure in the 70s and 80s, spent the last five weeks ailing in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital before he passed away. He was 78.
In an immediate tribute to Clarke, one of the first shareholders in the NATION newspaper, Editor Emeritus of the Nation Publish Company Harold Hoyte called him an inspiration to aspiring black business people.
He recalled Clarke bringing “great exuberance” to the deliberations back in the 1970s when the newspaper first started as a weekly.
“His insights, though not always popular, helped many of us to remain focused and grounded,” Hoyte said of his longtime associate Clarke.
Clarke’s last business venture is the Winifred Trophies & Calypso Sportswear. He was educated at Combermere and Harrison College and is survived by a daughter. (TS/AC)
