IT WAS A CLOSE CALL for 26-year-old Nico Beckles after the vehicle he was driving struck an Adopt-A-Post sign and ended on its side in a ditch along the ABC Highway (above).

Beckles was able to walk away with minor injuries from the accident yesterday morning. It occurred between the Clyde Walcott Roundabout in Hothersal Turning and the Everton Weekes Roundabout at Warrens.

A taxi driver, Patrick Rollock, who is also a paramedic, told the SATURDAY SUN that he passed shortly after the incident and assisted Beckles until the ambulance arrived.

His girlfriend, Leandra Thompson, who visited the scene, said Beckles was a diabetic and she was not sure if that contributed to the accident.

After viewing the car, Thompson said she was surprised and thankful that he was not seriously injured.

She said Beckles, who is a technician, was working in the Warrens Industrial Park area and may have been on his way to another location.

Beckles was the lone occupant of the car.
