TO CELEBRATE International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) of the Ministry of Environment and Drainage will host its annual beach cleanup on September 19.

The cleanup, which is a component of the National Marine Litter Monitoring Programme, will begin at 6 a.m. at Morgan Lewis Beach, St. Andrew.

Interested persons are asked to register with the EPD by Wednesday, September 16. Transportation and refreshments will be provided for those who register on or before the deadline.

Registered participants who require transportation must assemble at the EPD, L.V. Harcourt Lewis Building, Dalkeith, St Michael, by 5 a.m. for a 5:30 a.m. departure.  Those who do not require transportation are asked to assemble at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, at 6:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, persons interested in participating in a beach cleanup but do not wish to attend the one at Morgan Lewis, may join the Caribbean Youth Environment Network at Long Beach, St. Philip, also on Saturday, September 19, at 6 a.m.

Persons requiring more information on the beach cleanups or how to host their own, may call a Marine Pollution Officer from the Environmental Protection Department at 310-3600. (BGIS)
