VAT ‘knot’ untied

MINISTER OF FINANCE Chris Sinckler says he is satisfied that confusion over the VAT-free basket of basic goods was resolved following an almost two-hour meeting yesterday with key stakeholders.

The talks at Government Headquarters involved around 25 stakeholders, including representatives of the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

Sinckler described the meeting as highly productive and useful, saying he believed “99 percent of all concerns were addressed and resolved”.

“Generally all sides seemed much clearer as to what is in and what is out of the basic basket of VAT-free goods. Equally and importantly as well all sides appear to now better understand why certain adjustments were being made, even if some don’t agree 100 per cent with all,” he said.
