A FORMER HIGH COURT JUDGE is calling on the authorities to separate first offenders from hardened criminals in prison, teach them a skill while there, and give them employment after they leave.
Retired Justice Leroy Inniss said he considered these three key elements essential to the rehabilitation of young people caught up in the justice system.
“You have to be very careful when you send persons to prison for one thing,” said the former jurist.
“Some persons go to prison and come out worse because they mix with the bad element in prison.” (GC)
