AFTER YEARS OF restorative work, the majestic chancel of St Michael’s Cathedral was revealed during a service yesterday morning.

Dean Dr Frank Marshall told the DAILY NATION “a couple of things have to be done over the next two weeks, but it’s good that we’ve reached the stage where the screen can be down and persons can see the beauty and redecoration of the [chancel]”.

Not only was the wrought iron screen to the chancel restored, but the stained glass windows behind the altar were refurbished as well. This was made possible after the diocesan trustees took out a $3 million loan.

The project signalled the end of the first phase of restoration at the historic Bridgetown church. Work had begun in 2010.

Marshall indicated that much work still needed to be done.

“The entire restoration will take some time because money is the key,” he said. (AD)
