KENSINGTON OVAL was transformed into a “mini Coney Island” last Saturday just in time to usher in the new school year.

Hundreds of children and parents gathered to experience the popular Ovaltastic Fun City and draw the curtains on their nine-week summer vacation.

The event was filled with a variety of fun attractions such as a haunted house, games room, rodeo bull, jumping tents, soft dart shooting gallery, face painting and much more.

Since the main focus was on families, there was also an adult zone which offered mini massages and a range of alcoholic beverages. ovaltastic2

Carol-Ann Thornton, a member of the organising committee, said she was pleased with the turnout this year which she attributed to timely planning.

“This year is a lot bigger than last year. We pushed a lot earlier; last year we were kind of late so we fell back in numbers,” said Thornton.

She said one major strategy the committee utilised was to target the schools long before they closed for vacation as well as the summer camps.

She added they were able to give out over 10 000 tickets, so they were expecting a full house.

Thornton said one of the biggest additions to the event was an after-party for the teens which was expected to start around 7 p.m. and finish just before midnight. (RG)
