SIX-FOOTER Jason Holder is standing even taller today.
Holder reached some heady heights yesterday when he was named West Indies’ Test cricket captain, replacing wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.
Holder, 23, already West Indies One-Day captain, will lead a 15-man squad that include a whopping seven Barbadians, including newcomer Jomel Warrican and fast-bowling all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, on the October 14 to November 12 tour of Sri Lanka.
The regional side will play two Tests in Galle (October 14-18) and Colombo (October 22-26), followed by three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20s.
Despite only playing eights Tests, Holder’s leadership qualities have been hailed by chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said yesterday that the recommendation of the selection panel had been “endorsed unanimously” by directors, during a teleconference last Wednesday.
“The directors discussed the recommendation put forward by the selectors. We have all seen Jason’s clear leadership potential and believe he can perform an excellent job for West Indies cricket over many years.
“We congratulate him on his appointment,” WICB president Dave Cameron said in a release. (EZS/CMC)
