Live the way you want and believe in what you want and never let anyone make you think any different. The one in control of your life is you. – Nishan Panwar
OUR PAST IS THE PAST. Yet many persons who are absolutely powerless always want to use the past to define others.
Once I was a victim of this silly game; now no one who travels on this planet can use my past to define my future.
In fact, there are some people whom I encountered on my journey who believe they could make me feel bad about where I went to school and the district where I once lived, but I am extremely sorry for those non-believers.
First they said: “She ain’t come from nowhere. She comes from Ellerton.”
In my opinion Ellerton is a district which teaches about love and community spirit.
Then they said: “Oh! She went to Princess Margaret Secondary School, so she ain’t bright.”
I went on to Cave Hill and earned a degree in history.
Then a supervisor said: “She cannot teach history because she cannot analyse.”
I had it rough.
Then while they were confused about my religious persuasion, I was teaching Sunday school at St Luke’s Anglican Church and went on to gain a diploma in theology from Codrington College.
The list of my other earthly distinctions is priceless and my spirit growth is improving.
People who live in fear and those who have surrendered all power to others are usually the ones who utter rubbish about others.
I implore readers of this column to never allow others to use your past to define your future. The past is the past and therefore don’t believe in what others think about you. Believe in your aspirations and ask the Creator to map your future.
People who meddle or try to predict what the future has in store for others are confused people. Just take ten minutes this week to observe the people who speak very negatively about the future of others. They are usually very lost and unproductive. They are cowards and are usually surrounded by other negative supporters.
However, I keep myself grounded by having regular baths with lemon grass and Epsom salts to cleanse my space.
I always drink poor-man-pork tea mixed with garlic to energise my spirit. Nothing is better than tending to my plants and picking and consuming fresh mulberries, passion fruit and five fingers from my tresses. It is also good to repeat positive aspirations, exercise and talk to the Creator.
Finally, I continue to do cardio and weight training in the gym and drink linseed daily. I have resolved in myself that “no one can choose my destiny but me”.
