A SURINAMESE WOMAN will spend 18 months in Dodds prison after she was unable to pay a $50 000 fine for importing cocaine.
Twenty-eight-year-old Donna Urudice Oehlers pleaded guilty to possession of half a kilogramme of cocaine, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation when she appeared in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to police, Oehlers arrived by air from Guyana on August 18 and was interviewed by police. A subsequent search of her handbag resulted in the discovery of a wrapping containing cocaine. She was then referred to the hospital where she passed out 31 packages of cocaine.
Oehlers was fined $50 000 forthwith on the charge of importation and convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the remaining charges. (PR/NB)
